From 1992, when I was in high school, to 1996, I played guitar and sang in the band Vegetarian Meat (we recorded an album called Let's Pet for No.6/Caroline Records, plus a couple 7" singles). In 2009, Teenbeat Records reissued some of these recordings on a double CD set called Speed Dating: The No.6 Records Compendium. Between 1997 and 2005, I recorded four really bizarre solo albums under the name "Charles Douglas." I also covered the song "She's An Angel" on the album Hello Radio: the Songs of They Might Be Giants released by Bar/None in 2006, and "Bone Machine" for a Pixies tribute 7" single released by American Laundromat in 2008.
My first solo album, The Lives of Charles Douglas, was produced by Maureen Tucker of The Velvet Underground who also played drums on it, and my last one, Statecraft, featured Joey Santiago from The Pixies on lead guitars. The other two I made by myself in my basement, on a boombox. My songs have been covered by artists including The Long Winters, BrakesBrakesBrakes, Steve Turner, The Comas, Alina Simone, Mark Robinson, Grand Mal, and more. You can probably find some of my records on ebay for 1 cent.... Happy hunting!
